MANILA — The Office of the Ombudsman said it will provide copies of Vice President Sara Duterte’s Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) to the House Committee on Justice following a subpoena.
The committee, which is examining impeachment complaints against Duterte, requested her SALNs for 2007 to 2013 as Davao City vice mayor, 2016 to 2022 as mayor, and 2022 to 2025 as vice president.
Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said during a press briefing: “Even a simple request would do. So much more if it’s a subpoena, we will comply.”
Clavano emphasized that promoting transparency and accountability has been a priority for the office. He noted that one of the first steps under Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla was to make public officials’ SALNs accessible.
At the same time, Clavano said the Ombudsman is proceeding cautiously in investigating impeachable officers to avoid unconstitutional actions.
He added that several complaints have been filed against Duterte, including a recent plunder complaint by former senator Antonio Trillanes IV and others regarding alleged anomalies in the use of her confidential and intelligence funds (CIF) during her terms as vice president, Department of Education secretary, and Davao City mayor.
“The investigation regarding VP Sara is ongoing. We are gathering more and more evidence,” Clavano said, adding that the probe is currently in the fact-finding stage.
