MANILA — Former professional basketball player Mark Cardona was arrested in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig following an alleged harassment incident.

A police report stated that a 21-year-old woman accused the 44-year-old Cardona of inappropriate behavior.

“suddenly grabbed her hand and kissed her without consent.”

“However, the suspect became aggressive, pushed her boyfriend, and challenged him to a fight. They then approached a bouncer to report the incident, but the suspect continued to act aggressively and even poked the boyfriend’s eyes,” the report added.

Authorities said other women later approached the complainant and alleged that the same individual had committed similar acts against them.

Security personnel from the establishment assisted the victim and her boyfriend and escorted them to a police station to file a complaint.

Police Captain Melvin Garcia, chief of the Taguig City Police Public Information Office and Investigation and Detection Management Section, said Cardona underwent inquest proceedings.

He is expected to face charges of acts of lasciviousness and physical injury.

Mark Cardona is known for his career in the Philippine Basketball Association, where he earned the nickname “The Captain” as a high-scoring guard.

He played for teams such as the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters and the Meralco Bolts, and was recognized for his scoring ability and clutch performances during his prime years in the mid-2000s.

Cardona also became part of the Philippine national team pool in international competitions and remained active in the league until 2016 during his stint with the Meralco Bolts.

In 2018, he was previously arrested in connection with a physical injury case involving his live-in partner. He was also earlier reported to have faced a case related to alleged estafa and the pawning of a stolen vehicle.
