MANILA — Senator Erwin Tulfo floated the possibility of reintroducing work-from-home arrangements in both government and private offices as fuel prices continue to climb.

Tulfo said certain job roles do not require employees to be physically present in the workplace, making remote work a viable option.

“If a worker’s physical presence or activity is not required at the workplace, why not just have them report online?” said Tulfo in a statement.

“For instance, those in office roles like planning, research, admin, customer service, and other similar jobs can work from home.”

For workers whose presence is necessary on-site, the senator suggested alternative measures to cut transportation expenses, such as ride-sharing.

“And if physical presence is required, such as in manufacturing, hotels, restaurants, or hospitals, colleagues can carpool in one vehicle and split the gas costs,” he added.

Some government agencies have already implemented a four-day onsite work arrangement. Meanwhile, Malacañang previously issued Memorandum Circular 114, which underscores the need for stricter energy conservation measures in government offices to reduce overall energy consumption and ensure more efficient use of public resources.
