MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reminded motorists to exercise patience and self-control during the expected Holy Week travel rush starting Maundy Thursday.
In a statement, LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza II emphasized that public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers are responsible for passenger safety and must avoid confrontations on the road.
“Learn from the lessons of road rage incidents in the past. Wala itong na-ibubungang maganda at sisirain lang nito ang araw niyo (This will not result in anything good and will just ruin your day),” Mendoza said.
To accommodate the surge in commuters, the LTFRB has issued special permits to nearly 1,300 passenger buses. Mendoza directed all regional directors to step up inspections of PUVs, checking both vehicle roadworthiness and the mental and physical condition of drivers.
“Remember that Holy Week is also a time for reflection. And one of the best ways to observe Semana Santa is to exercise discipline and self-control in times of any incident that challenges your character,” he said.
He also called on transport companies to remind drivers to strictly follow road safety rules, highlighting the importance of avoiding road rage.
Holy Week, a Christian observance, begins on Palm Sunday and concludes on Easter Sunday. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are regular holidays, while Black Saturday is a special non-working holiday in the Philippines.
