LOS ANGELES — Taylor Swift is being sued for alleged trademark infringement over her October 2025 album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The complaint, filed on March 30 by Maren Wade, targets Swift, Universal Music Group, and Bravado International Group Merchandising Services Inc the application.
“Maren Wade spent more than a decade building ‘Confessions of a Showgirl.’ She registered it. She earned it,” Wade’s lawyer said in a statement to ABC News. “We have great respect for Swift’s talent and success, but trademark law exists to ensure that creators at all levels can protect what they’ve built. That’s what this case is about.”
Wade is a singer and performer who appeared on America’s Got Talent. She became a columnist for Las Vegas Weekly in 2014 and later adapted her column into a one-woman comedic cabaret show. She has also released a podcast and a book under the Confessions of a Showgirl brand, which she registered with the USPTO in 2015.
The lawsuit comes shortly after Swift released a surprise music video for Elizabeth Taylor, one of the tracks from The Life of a Showgirl.
