MANILA — The Philippines has enough fuel supply to last 50.42 days despite global oil disruptions caused by ongoing tensions in the Middle East, the Department of Energy (DOE) said Tuesday, April 7.

At a press briefing, DOE Secretary Janet Garin said the country’s current fuel inventory, recorded at 75.052 million liters as of April 3, is expected to last until the latter part of May.

However, Garin clarified that the 50-day supply does not indicate that fuel stocks will run out after that period, but rather reflects the timeframe within which replenishment should be made.

“That means the supply we have as of today is good up to 50 days, which means the latter half of May. So ang ibig sabihin nun, it’s not like we won’t have any more supply after May or at the end of May. It basically means we have 50 days to replenish what we consume,” Garin said.

Meanwhile, Energy Undersecretary Alessandro Sales said a government-procured shipment of 300,000 barrels of diesel from Malaysia is expected to arrive on Friday, April 10.

The DOE also anticipates an additional 600,000 barrels of diesel to be delivered later this month.

On Tuesday, oil companies implemented price hikes on petroleum products, with diesel prices increasing between P18 and P19.50 per liter.
