MANILA — Malacañang assured the public that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remains focused on the country’s energy crisis despite a surge of disinformation targeting his health.

Dave Gomez said the Presidential Communications Office’s Anti-Fake News Desk has detected a “sudden and coordinated surge” of false information circulating on social media, prompting preparations for possible legal action.

“We are in a state of energy emergency. The President will not be distracted by this noise,” Gomez said.

“The President remains laser-focused on one mission: solving our energy emergency and delivering real, tangible help to every Filipino family, improving their lives and strengthening our economy.”

The statement comes as the Philippines continues to grapple with global oil supply disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have pushed up fuel prices and raised concerns about supply stability.

Gomez noted that even traditional media have been affected by false claims. The PCO is gathering evidence against those behind the posts.

“The Presidential Communications Office is tracking and documenting every post, every comment, and every lie. Each one is a piece of evidence we can use in court,” he said, adding that authorities are working to identify the perpetrators and their networks.

“We will identify the perpetrators, trace their networks, and file the proper charges in court,” Gomez said. He also questioned the timing of the disinformation, saying it appeared intended to undermine the administration.

President Marcos earlier dismissed concerns about his health, noting he has returned to his normal routine months after recovering from diverticulitis in January.
