CALIFORNIA — Pop superstar Justin Bieber returned to the stage on Saturday night to headline the second day of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, delivering a performance that blended new material with a retrospective of his musical career.
The Canadian singer, who has not performed at a large-scale venue since 2022 when he appeared at Rock in Rio in Brazil before canceling the rest of his international tour due to health issues, was billed to make a full-scale comeback at the festival.
Bieber previously released the album “Swag,” followed by his eighth studio album “Swag II,” with his Coachella set opening with several tracks from the latter.
In the lead-up to the performance, he told fans in an Instagram post that “We WILL be singing at the top of our lungs on Saturday.”
Dressed in a red sweater, shorts, and black boots, the 32-year-old artist performed with a minimalist stage setup, at one point taking on a DJ role and responding to audience and online requests.
He later shifted the set into a retrospective segment, revisiting older material and searching his own YouTube videos on stage while performing snippets of early hits including “That Should Be Me,” “Beauty and a Beat,” “Never Say Never,” and the teen pop anthem “Baby.”
“This is special,” he told the crowd. “This is a night I dreamed about for a long time, so to be here is amazing.”
The performance also featured clips from Bieber’s past and footage involving his wife, Hailey Bieber, as part of the visual presentation.
