MANILA, Philippines — The crime rate in Metro Manila saw a significant decline in February 2025, with the number of reported cases dropping by 37.06 percent compared to the same period last year, according to data from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
The total crime volume fell from 545 cases in February 2024 to 343 cases in February 2025, reflecting a decrease of 202 cases.
Authorities attributed the drop to intensified law enforcement operations, increased police visibility, and strengthened community partnerships.
Among the key crime categories, murder cases fell by 41.94 percent, from 31 to 18, while homicide cases decreased by 25 percent, from 12 to 9.
Reports of physical injuries and rape also declined significantly, with both registering close to a 50 percent decrease—physical injuries dropped from 57 to 29 cases (-49.12 percent), and rape cases from 91 to 46 cases (-49.45 percent).
Incidents of robbery fell by 33.73 percent, from 83 to 55 cases, while theft cases declined by 33.62 percent, from 229 to 152.
Carnapping cases involving motor vehicles and motorcycles also showed improvements, with motor vehicle carnapping dropping by 57.14 percent (from seven to three cases) and motorcycle carnapping decreasing by 11.43 percent (from 35 to 31 cases).
NCRPO data also showed an increase in crime solution efficiency, which rose by 8.68 percentage points, from 67.71 percent in February 2024 to 76.38 percent in February 2025.
Despite the overall decline, authorities emphasized that maintaining security remains a priority.
NCRPO Acting Regional Director PBGEN Anthony A. Aberin noted that law enforcement efforts would continue, particularly in addressing emerging crime trends and vehicle-related offenses.
“We understand that some may not immediately feel the impact of these improvements, but the numbers speak for themselves. This decline is a result of strengthened police visibility, intelligence-driven operations, and deepened community engagement,” Aberin said.
He also assured the public that the reported figures were based on verified records from the Crime Information, Reporting, and Analysis System (CIRAS) and emphasized the importance of sustained efforts to ensure safety across Metro Manila.
Authorities encourage the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement initiatives, stressing that continued community engagement is essential in maintaining and further improving public safety in the region.
