MANILA, Philippines – A Swedish national accused of two counts of child rape was nabbed by authorities in Angelis City, Pampanga. 

According to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Heinz Henry Andreas Berglund was the subject of an arrest warrant of the Swedish Police Authority (SPA) through the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). 

Apart from two counts of rape of a child, Berglund is also wanted in his country for alleged Rape of a Child (Chapter 6, Section 4), Gross Sexual Assault of a Child (Chapter 6, Section 6) and Child Pornography Offence (Chapter 16, Section 10a) all under the Swedish Criminal Code.

He also had previous convictions for serious financial fraud in 2009 and 2003.  

NBI-Violence Against Women and Children Division (VAWCD) Chief Yehlen Agus on Thursday said the subject intentionally went to the Philippines to prey on young girls for sexual pleasure.  

“Sa Sweden po meron siyang rape at sexual abuse at dito napag alaman natin na pagdating niya, may mga kausap siyang facilitator na nag-aalok din ng mga bata. ‘Yun po yung inabangan namin, inantay namin na magkita sana sila nung facilitator kasama nung bata,” Agus said. 

“Unfortunately hindi tayo nag successful dun kai hindi pa sila nakakapag meet kaya sa coordination namin sa Swedish government police nila ay nag-issue na sila ng warrant dun sa mga previous cases niya,” she said. 

Berglund’s passport was already revoked and he was issued an  International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) red notice signaling the NBI to coordinate with the Bureau of Immigration – Fugitive Search Unit to issue a mission order declaring the subject as an undesirable alien. 

On April 2, he was collared by NBI operatives in a hotel in Angeles City. 

Suspect denies 

In an interview with the media, the suspect denied the accusations and said he’s been staying in the Philippines for 14 days for a vacation. 

He said he only wants to go back to Sweden and that he is innocent of the charges filed against him. 

He also denied dealing with facilitators to supply him girls for sexual pleasure. He also denied being a pedophile.
