Rep. Paolo Duterte and Justice Secretary Boying Remulla

MANILA, Philippines – Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said he will keep his hands off on the complaint filed against Davao 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte over the viral video where he figured in an altercation with another man in a bar.

“We will look into it, we will let the prosecutors handle it. Hindi naman ako nagdi-dictate ng gagawin ng prosecutor,” Remulla said.

A CCTV clip went viral online showing a man resembling the lawmaker holding a knife and headbutting another man while punching him on the side. The incident allegedly happened last February 23 at Hearsay Gastropub Bar in Davao City.

In an interview, the complainant confirmed that the scene captured in the video was the subject of his complaint and that the man threatening him was the son of the former president.

According to him, the tension started when Duterte got “triggered” over payment issues with women he hired during a drinking session.

In a video uploaded on social media last Saturday, Duterte did not directly address the issue but left the decision on Davao voters on who to choose.

The lawmaker’s sister, Vice President Sara Duterte dismissed the complaint as a mere “political attack” yet again by the administration against their family.

The Palace meanwhile questioned why fingers will be pointed to the administration when it was them who personally engaged in such acts.
