MANILA – Novaliches Bishop Teodoro Bacani called on House members to win back the trust of Filipinos amid reports of corruption involving politicians.

“You can win (the people’s) trust again,” Bacani said in his homily during a Wednesday Eucharistic Celebration sponsored by the Office of the Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III and other House members.

Bacani said public trust can be regained beginning with repentance or a change in mindset.

“Let us remember the words of St. Francis, that it is in giving that we receive… that it is in serving that we are honored,” he said.

The bishop lamented that reports of corruption have reached other countries and urged those involved in such acts to stop.

“Many people have done harm, but enough,” Bacani said.

He encouraged those in attendance to serve their constituencies selflessly and with love, describing this as “the road to greatness.”

“If we want to build people, if we want to build society, if we want to build ourselves, we must not only serve – we must serve out of love,” he said.

Bacani also warned against the temptation of money, which he said has affected even members of the clergy.

He added that the Catholic faith is a religion of second chances, citing the biblical account of Jesus forgiving Peter.

“Ang gusto niyang sabihin, bati na tayo, limutin na natin ang nakaraan, magbago na tayo at magkaroon tayo ng bagong samahan,” Bacani said.

Wednesday’s Eucharistic Celebration was held as part of the House’s Program for Spiritual and Values Enhancement Formation.
