MANILA — Priscilla Meirelles has filed a petition before the Regional Trial Court of Quezon City to have her divorce from John Estrada recognized in the Philippines.
In a statement issued by her legal counsel and shared through her Instagram Stories, Meirelles said the First Family Court of the Judicial District of Boa Vista, State of Roraima in Brazil released a Sentença on March 31, 2025, which formally ended their marriage under Brazilian law.
“By filing this Petition, Priscilla seeks to have the Sentença issued by the First Family Court of the Judicial District of Boa Vista, State of Roraima, as well as all its legal effects, recognized and enforced in the Philippines, the country which she has come to love and call home,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the petition aims to update her civil status and ensure that her official records properly reflect the change.
The beauty queen also described the legal move as “a significant step in her journey towards healing, closing a chapter of her life, and starting a new beginning as a single woman.”
She expressed appreciation for her lawyers handling the case.
“I am immensely grateful to my dedicated and incredible team of lawyers for their relentless support throughout this journey. Malayo pa but Malayo Na,” she said.
Meirelles and Estrada were married in 2011. They share a daughter, Samantha Anechka, born in 2012.
Earlier this month, Meirelles confirmed on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda that she had obtained a divorce in Brazil, saying she filed for it in 2024.
She said the decision came after 14 years of marriage.
“For me, the marriage is no longer valid, I don’t see myself sharing a life with that person anymore,” she said. “I fought for 14 years and I got to the point where hindi ko na kaya and I realized after a lot of things that happened, the best thing for me is to really move forward mag-isa.”
