MANILA — Transport group PISTON has filed a petition before the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) seeking a P10 increase in jeepney fares.
Based on reports, the proposed adjustment would raise the current base fare for jeepneys from P13 to P23.
The petition comes after the LTFRB earlier approved a P1 fare hike for traditional jeepneys. However, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed the Department of Transportation to suspend its implementation, which was initially scheduled to take effect on March 19.
Marcos said the move was aimed at addressing the needs of commuters who rely on public transportation.
Meanwhile, fuel companies announced significant rollbacks in pump prices this week. Diesel prices are expected to decrease by P2.40 to P2.60 per liter, while gasoline prices may go down by P2.50 to P3.50 per liter.
