MANILA — An official of the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) and former senator Antonio Trillanes IV are set to appear before the House committee on justice on April 22 as part of the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

A report said based on subpoenas issued by the panel, AMLC Chairman Eli Remolona Jr. and Trillanes were directed to attend the hearing scheduled at 10 a.m.

Remolona was instructed to present “original or certified true copies of all reports of covered transactions and suspicious transactions” involving Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, including “any and all investigation reports or related reports or documents prepared by AMLC” on the same.

The subpoena stated that these records will be used “to testify on reports of covered transactions and suspicious transactions” linked to the Vice President and her spouse, and are relevant to the panel’s inquiry into allegations of unexplained wealth.

The AMLC was also directed to “identify and authenticate AMLC reportorial certifications, and other relevant reports” involving Duterte, her husband, and “various business entities in which they hold interest.”

Meanwhile, Trillanes was ordered to submit “original or certified true copies of documents in connection with the allegations in the impeachment complaints of unexplained wealth, which Vice President Sara Duterte failed to reflect in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth.”

He was also asked to testify regarding his claims that Duterte maintained multiple bank accounts where large sums, potentially reaching hundreds of millions or even billions of pesos, were deposited or transferred over time.

The subpoenas were signed by House justice committee chair Gerville Luistro, with Deputy Speaker Alfredo Benitez signing on behalf of Speaker Faustino Dy III.

In a separate statement, House committee on public accounts chair Terry Ridon said the April 22 hearing would focus on documentary evidence.

“There is no star witness here. The documents will speak for themselves,” he said.

Duterte’s 2024 Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) declared a net worth of P88.5 million.

“Her SALN entries should match her bank records and other financial statements. Otherwise, it becomes a probable cause for a case of unexplained wealth,” Ridon added.
