MANILA — Sen. Imee Marcos warned that online gaming platform Roblox could face a total ban in the Philippines if it fails to address serious issues involving child safety and online abuse.

During a Senate hearing, Marcos issued a stern warning to the company, saying, “Game over agad ’yan kung hindi susunod sa mga kailangang pagbabago para sa proteksyon ng mga bata.”

The senator also raised alarm over the increasing cases of online abuse involving minors in the country. “Napakaraming problemang ganito, naging number two na tayo sa child exploitation—nakakahiya,” she said.

As part of her proposed measures, Marcos gave Roblox a three-month deadline to fix the identified issues. Within that period, the company must demonstrate that its safety mechanisms are effective and that vulnerabilities in its system have been addressed. Failure to comply may result in the platform’s suspension or prohibition in the country.

Marcos also pushed for the creation of a centralized database in line with Section 30 of Republic Act No. 11930, to be jointly managed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Justice, and Philippine National Police. The system aims to streamline coordination and establish a unified list of cases related to online sexual abuse and exploitation of children. She noted that fragmented investigations are ineffective against organized cybercrime.

In addition, Marcos criticized the platform’s interface, describing it as difficult for parents to navigate. “‘Yung dati, hopeless. Sinubukan ko—ang hirap-hirap pumasok pati yung interface, imposible at napaka-komplikado,” she said.

The senator also recommended that Roblox assign a dedicated staff member to oversee operations in the Philippines and establish a local complaint desk to facilitate quicker response and coordination with authorities and victims.

Marcos said that without clear improvements after the given period, it would be better to halt the platform’s operations rather than allow continued abuse online.

“Kung hindi talaga kayang i-regulate, suspindehin na lang, —huwag na hayaang magpatuloy. Bigyan ng safeguards. Subukan natin sa loob ng ilang buwan, tapos dapat may aksyon na. Kalokohan lang itong mga miting-miting kung walang magbabago,” she said.
