MANILA — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has identified one of the two suspects in the shooting incident at the corner of Timog Avenue and EDSA that left two people dead, authorities said.
Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said in a press briefing that forensic examination of latent fingerprints recovered from the motorcycle used by the suspects produced a match.
The motorcycle was discovered abandoned hours after the April 28 ambush.
“Puwede lang namin i-share sa inyo, identified na po ‘yung isa doon sa dalawa (What we can only share with you is that one of the two suspects has been identified),” Tuaño said, without giving further details, citing ongoing manhunt operations.
The victims were identified as sports patron and businessman Perry Mariano, 75, and his driver Norberto Orimaco, 51. Both were attacked by two motorcycle-riding gunmen and later died at the hospital.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said investigators are currently considering business rivalry as a possible motive behind the attack.
“Hopefully we can go to the bottom of this incident, unmasking the mastermind and getting to know [the] motive,” he said.
