MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte has challenged former House Speaker Martin Romualdez and former lawmaker Zaldy Co to “tell the truth” regarding allegations linked to controversial flood control projects.

“Kung totoo talaga na interesado si Zaldy Co at si Martin Romualdez sa hustisya, hindi lang para sa kanila sarili, kundi para na sa taong bayan at sa Pilipinas, dapat sabihin nila kung ano totoo,” Duterte said during an interaction with supporters and overseas Filipinos in The Hague, Netherlands.

(If Zaldy Co and Martin Romualdez are truly interested in justice — not just for themselves but for the people and the country, they should tell the truth.)

“Iba naman ang sinasabi ni Martin Romualdez at ni Zaldy Co,” she added.

Romualdez and Co have been linked to allegations involving anomalous flood control projects, but both have denied the accusations.

Duterte also dismissed claims from some House lawmakers that around 200 members of the chamber are expected to vote in favor of her impeachment.

“Madami ang pumipera gamit ang pangalan ko (Many people are making money using my name),” she said.

House Justice Committee Chair and Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro earlier denied claims that members of the panel were being pressured to support impeachment moves against the Vice President.

The Vice President also reacted to recent arrests of some social media personalities accused of spreading fake news.

“Masyadong sensitive ang mga ganyan na mga tao na apektado sa opinyon ng ordinaryong mamamayan, sensitive, insecure and takot,” she said.

(People who are affected by the opinions of ordinary citizens are too sensitive, insecure, and afraid.)

Duterte was in The Hague to visit her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, and meet with supporters in the Netherlands.
