MANILA – House prosecution panel member and San Juan City Rep. Ysabel Zamora said the evidence presented during the House impeachment hearings against Vice President Sara Duterte was only an “appetizer,” stressing that more detailed and stronger evidence will be presented once the case reaches the Senate impeachment court.

“What happened in the House committee on justice ay parang patikim pa lang po iyon based on the [impeachment] complaints [filed against the Vice President. The evidence unearthed were based on what was alleged in the complaint,” Zamora said in a Super Radyo DZBB interview.

In a report, it said that she said that while relevant documents and evidence had already been presented during the House justice committee hearings, the prosecution will present more testimonial evidence and additional documents during the Senate trial.

“All the relevant and related evidence was presented during the House committee on justice hearing, but for the trial, it will be more detailed. We will have testimonial evidence from witnesses, and they can bring other documents, which are all related and relevant to our case. We are beefing up the evidence, documents we have, and we will prepare as much as we can,” she added.

Zamora made the statement after being asked whether the revelations in the House hearings had already peaked, following disclosures from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) on alleged ₱6.7 billion in bank transactions involving Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio, from 2006 to 2025.

The hearings also revealed that the Vice President did not declare any cash or bank deposits from 2019 to 2024 in her Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth.

Duterte, for her part, said she is leaving the impeachment case to her legal team and has no personal reaction to the proceedings.

“Sa impeachment, mayroon kaming spokesperson at defense team para sa impeachment. ‘Yan ay isang legal na proseso at iwan na lang natin sa spokesperson at sa abogado ang pag-komento,” she said in an interview in The Hague.

“Wala akong feelings about the impeachment,” she added.

Her lawyers said they are prepared to defend her before the Senate sitting as an impeachment court, stressing that the prosecution must meet the burden of proof.

House prosecutors and members of the Makabayan bloc, including Reps. Antonio Tinio, Sarah Elago, and Renee Co, said the House evidence supports the impeachment, citing allegations of confidential fund misuse, unexplained wealth, bribery, and death threats.

They also urged the Senate to immediately convene as an impeachment court, saying it is an obligation to proceed with the trial “forthwith.”

Meanwhile, House Senior Deputy Majority Leader Rep. Lorenz Defensor said he is preparing for the trial while considering current Senate dynamics and the upcoming 2028 elections.

“I don’t want to preempt the decision of our future senator-judges,” Defensor said, adding that he expects senators to remain fair and impartial despite political realities.

He also said the prosecution panel has yet to finalize assignments but noted that allegations involving threats and unexplained wealth are among the “easiest” to present during the trial.

The Senate is expected to convene as an impeachment court once it receives the Articles of Impeachment from the House.
