MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved 141,724 units of passenger jeepneys and UV Express vehicles to benefit from the government’s PHP10-per-liter fuel discount program.
In a statement on Monday, LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza II said the approved coverage spans all regions nationwide, with 12,688 beneficiaries already completing successful transactions under the program.
“This is proof that the government is still really taking care of the PUV sector despite the improvement of the prices of petroleum products,” Mendoza said.
The fuel subsidy program, which was initially launched in Metro Manila with only 50 participating gasoline stations, has now expanded to 4,299 stations nationwide through coordination with the Department of Energy.
To date, the national government has disbursed over PHP13.3 million since the program began.
Mendoza said the initiative is expected to be further expanded to include other types of public utility vehicles (PUVs), noting that it aims to benefit both transport operators and commuters.
“This will not only benefit the drivers and operators but also the commuters as well,” he said.
He added that the LTFRB is closely monitoring implementation to address any errors or system glitches and ensure smooth distribution of fuel discounts.
A list of participating gasoline stations in Metro Manila and other parts of the country is expected to be made available through a mobile application.
Under the program, PUVs with valid franchises are entitled to a fuel subsidy with a weekly ceiling of up to 150 liters.
The LTFRB is also tasked with managing the program’s budget before it is transferred to the Land Bank of the Philippines for processing and crediting of fuel subsidy payments to accredited gasoline stations.
