MANILA — Sen. Panfilo Lacson said he felt a “double relief” following the change in leadership of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, while stressing that he will continue his anti-corruption efforts.
Lacson made the remark after Sen. Pia Cayetano was designated as the new chairperson of the Blue Ribbon panel, a move that came a week after a separate leadership reshuffle in the Senate.
“Double relief. I feel relieved that I am now relieved of my duties as the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman,” Lacson said in a post on his X account.
Lacson previously chaired the committee’s inquiry into alleged anomalous flood control projects. He also pointed out that all Senate committee chairpersons are elected by their peers and serve at the discretion of fellow lawmakers.
Under his leadership, the Blue Ribbon Committee contributed to the case buildup against individuals allegedly linked to the flood control controversy.
Despite stepping down from the chairmanship, Lacson said his commitment to anti-corruption advocacy will remain unchanged.
“I will continue to fight a corrupt and rotten system in the misuse and abuse of public funds as I have consistently done in the course of my long years in public service,” he said.
