MANILA — Filipino idol girl group MNL48 has announced that it will cease all activities by the end of the month, marking the end of its eight-year run in the local P-pop scene.

In a statement posted on the group’s Facebook page, management company P.O.S. Inc. confirmed the disbandment following discussions with relevant parties.

The company said it considered several factors before making the decision, including the sustainability of its management structure and future operating conditions.

“While we deeply appreciate the unwavering support from members, fans, and staff, we carefully considered the sustainability of the management structure, the future operating environment, and the various conditions necessary to continue supporting the group in a stable manner,” the statement read.

“We have done our utmost to carry MNL48 forward in the best possible way,” P.O.S. Inc. said. “We deeply apologize for not being able to fully meet everyone’s expectations in the end.”

The group’s newly released music video for “Pag-ibig Fortune Cookie 2026” will serve as its final output. Management said the video “contains gratitude toward all the fans” and reflects the “heartfelt feelings of the members.”

P.O.S. Inc. also expressed gratitude to fans, members, and staff who contributed to the group’s career.

“We sincerely apologize for the sudden nature of this announcement and for arriving at this difficult decision,” it said. “We deeply express our heartfelt gratitude once again for all the love and support you have given to MNL48 over the years.”

MNL48 was formed in 2018 as the fourth international sister group of Japan’s AKB48, following counterparts in Indonesia, China, and Thailand. It was the only group among them to debut with 48 members in its first generation.

The group gained popularity for releasing Filipino versions of AKB48 songs and was part of the early wave of modern P-pop alongside acts such as SB19, BINI, BGYO, Alamat, and 4th Impact.

Notable members across its three generations included Rans Rifol, Gabb Skribikin, Sela Guia, and Jelay Pilones.
