MANILA — Authorities at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 apprehended a Filipino passenger arriving from Bangkok, Thailand, after suspected marijuana was discovered in his checked-in luggage on Thursday.
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported that the illegal substance, locally known as “kush,” weighed 8.91 kilograms and had an estimated street value of PHP13.365 million.
According to initial information from the BOC, the contraband was detected during routine X-ray screening of the passenger’s baggage.
The agency said the discovery was later confirmed after a positive alert from a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) K9 unit.
The seized items were turned over to authorities for further laboratory examination and investigation.
