MANILA — The lawyer of former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co said he remains unaware of the ex-lawmaker’s current location, as Co continues to evade authorities over charges linked to alleged flood control project anomalies.
Co has been in hiding since last year after he was implicated in irregularities involving infrastructure projects.
On the sidelines of a Senate Blue Ribbon Subcommittee hearing on Thursday, June 4, Co’s lawyer Ruy Rondain was asked about his client’s whereabouts.
“I still don’t know,” Rondain said, adding that he last spoke with Co three days earlier.
The lawyer said he continues to maintain regular communication with the former lawmaker and noted that Co is “alright.”
In April, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Co had been detained in Prague, Czech Republic. However, Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida later stated that Co was no longer in Czech custody.
The Sandiganbayan has declared Co a fugitive in connection with graft and malversation cases over an alleged anomalous road dike project in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.
