MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio, owned at least 30 firearms based on government records, House prosecutor and Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Terry Ridon said Tuesday.

In a report, Ridon said the information was included in the prosecution’s pre-trial brief and was based on records from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Firearms Division. He added that the firearms were not reflected in the Vice President’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) from 2007 to 2025.

“We wanted to do a clean sweep of each and every agency with a list of properties owned by individuals, and we have identified the Firearms Division of the Philippine National Police (PNP). [Turns out] they have a lot of firearms under their names that were not in their SALN. It is very important to note that even the former president had boasted of having numerous guns and firearms,” he said.

Ridon said the firearms should have been declared as personal property in the SALN, adding that these include both high-powered and small firearms that could be worth millions.

“These include high-powered and small firearms that were not disclosed, and this could be valued at millions. But again, the point needs to be made: it is not just the value of the firearms, it is also the non-disclosure of the firearms ownership in the SALN of the Vice President,” Ridon added.

He also cited the 2012 impeachment of former Chief Justice Renato Corona, who was convicted for betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution over failure to fully disclose properties in his SALN.

“SALN requires public officials to disclose all the things they own. So this means that on top of not declaring cash in bank and cash on hand in her SALN from 2019 to 2025, the Vice President also failed to declare these firearms under her name,” he said.

Ridon said the findings strengthen claims of unexplained wealth and SALN violations.

“This only strengthens our assertion that she has unexplained wealth and SALN violations,” he added.

In response, the Vice President’s camp defended the SALN entries, saying cash holdings were declared under the “Others” category.

“Upon consultation with our client, the Vice President, ang nangyari kasi doon is…it was lumped doon sa ‘others.’ ‘Yung sa SALN kasi meron ‘yan—real properties, personal properties. Pagdating sa personal properties, naka-lump na lang ‘yung amount under the heading ‘others.’ ‘Yun ‘yung line item,” Vice President’s spokesperson and lawyer Michael Poa said in an interview.

The House prosecution team has approved Articles of Impeachment against the Vice President for Senate action, citing alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, betrayal of public trust, bribery, and other high crimes.

The charges include alleged misuse and irregular liquidation of confidential funds totaling PHP500 million for the Office of the Vice President and PHP112.5 million for the Department of Education, unexplained wealth, failure to properly disclose assets in SALN filings from 2022 to 2024, failure to divest business interests during her tenure, alleged inducement of officials in procurement-related violations, and alleged grave threats and incitement of sedition.

The articles also include accusations of bribery of DepEd officials and alleged contracting for the assassination of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Items a, e, and f form Article 1, 3, and 4 of the impeachment case, while items b, c, and d fall under Article 2.
