
MANILA — Government and compulsory contributory health care financing schemes accounted for the largest share of the country’s current health expenditure (CHE) in 2025, the Philippine Statistics Authority (Philippine Statistics Authority) said.
In its latest report, the PSA said these schemes contributed 46.5 percent of total CHE, followed by household out-of-pocket payments at 41.2 percent. Voluntary health care payment schemes accounted for the remaining 12.3 percent.
Total health expenditure (THE) reached PHP1.87 trillion in 2025 at current prices, reflecting a 15.1-percent increase from PHP1.63 trillion in 2024.
The PSA said this level of spending was equivalent to 6.7 percent of the country’s gross domestic product.
Current health expenditure made up 92.5 percent of total health spending during the year, while health capital formation expenditure accounted for 7.5 percent.
On a per capita basis, health spending rose to PHP15,223 in 2025, up 14 percent from PHP13,356 in the previous year, the agency added.
