MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has not received any official communication regarding an alleged arrest warrant against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta.

“As of now, the PNP has not received any official communication regarding said warrant,” PNP information chief and spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co said in a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. also said the police would follow legal procedures and would not enforce any arrest without a direct court order.

“The Philippine National Police has not issued any special operational directive concerning Senator Marcoleta, and we do not act on rumors or unverified information,” he said.

Nartatez emphasized that only the courts have the authority to issue warrants, and the PNP will act only when legally required.

Marcoleta earlier claimed he had received information about a possible arrest warrant linked to complaints over the alleged non-disclosure of PHP75 million in campaign donations during the 2025 midterm elections.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, meanwhile, said he is not aware of any charges filed against Marcoleta, adding that warrants are only issued once a case has been filed before the proper court, particularly the Sandiganbayan.

In the same briefing, Co also said the obstruction of justice complaint filed by the PNP against Sen. Robinhood Padilla will proceed despite being returned by the Department of Justice (DOJ) due to technical issues.

The complaint is connected to the alleged “escape” of Sen. Ronald Dela Rosa from Senate premises while under chamber protective custody following the issuance of an International Criminal Court warrant.

“As I understand, this is within the working mechanism of DC (Department Circular) 20, the close coordination and cooperation between the DOJ and law enforcement agencies,” Co said.

“So, mayroong kaunting (there is something) lacking. It does not mean anything about the case. It doesn’t affect the case at all,” he added.

Department Circular 20, issued in March 2023, directs prosecutors to take an active role in criminal investigations during the case build-up stage in coordination with law enforcement agencies.
