MANILA — A driver of former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) district engineer Henry Alcantara told the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division on Tuesday that he delivered sealed boxes, which he suspected contained money, to individuals associated with former DPWH Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo, former Caloocan Second District Rep. Mitch Cajayon-Uy, and former party-list Rep. Zaldy Co.

“Kay Cong. Mitch Cajayon po saka po ‘yung kay Cong. Zaldy Co (To Cong. Mitch Cajayon and to Cong. Zaldy Co),” witness Edrick Sandiego said when asked whether he had delivered the boxes to anyone other than Bernardo.

Sandiego, however, did not state how many times he made such deliveries.

He also said he never saw the contents of the sealed boxes and only suspected they contained money based on conversations he allegedly overheard between Alcantara and his chief of staff, Engineer Carlo Rivera, regarding multimillion-peso projects.

The witness said he was instructed to bring boxes from the Bulacan First District Engineering Office and turn them over to Bernardo’s drivers, identified as “Niño” and “Isko,” who would meet him at the basement of Diamond Hotel.

Sandiego said he delivered five boxes during the first meeting at the hotel and between seven and 10 boxes during a second occasion.

He added that each box weighed around five to seven kilograms.

As of posting time, the individuals named by the witness have yet to issue statements on the allegations. The report noted that responses will be published once available.

Sandiego’s testimony is part of the ongoing graft trial before the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division involving former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and six co-accused.

Prosecutors have alleged irregularities in connection with a P92.8-million flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.
