MANILA – Drag performer Maxie Andreison has issued a public apology after a 2023 video showing her physically assaulting another individual resurfaced online.

According to a report, the video shows Maxie and another person confronting an individual beside a van before both struck the person, with Maxie also kicking the individual.

According to accounts shared online, the incident happened after a performance when an intoxicated transgender fan allegedly asked to take a photo with Maxie and pulled on her wig, which had been tightly secured.

Another member of the LGBTQIA+ community later approached Maxie to apologize on the fan’s behalf, but Maxie mistakenly believed the person was responsible and confronted them physically before learning someone else had pulled her wig.

The fan later came forward to apologize and explain what happened, after which the confrontation captured in the viral video took place.

Maxie, whose real name is Jayvhot Galang, addressed the issue during an Instagram Live broadcast, saying those involved had already reconciled.

“Nag-sorry na ako and nag-sorry na rin sila, and nakapag-patawaran na kami sa isa’t isa and we moved on,” she said.

She admitted she could have handled the situation differently.

“Hindi kasi tama talaga na manakit. Hindi siya tama kahit saang aspeto. Hindi talaga ako katanggol-tanggol that time kasi mali talaga siya. Mali talagang manakit tayo.”

The drag performer said people close to her have continued to remind her about the incident and that she has been working to improve herself.

“Hanggang ngayon, pinapangaralan pa rin ako. Ayoko nang maulit ‘yon. Pasensiya na,” Maxie said.

“Alam ko talagang mapag-uusapan ‘yun kasi mali talaga ako ‘dun. Hindi ako nandito para depensahan ang sarili ko dahil mali talaga ako.”

A representative for Maxie later reiterated her apology while also restating the circumstances that led to the altercation.

The resurfaced video has prompted some theater and drag fans to call for changes to the upcoming stage adaptation of Die Beautiful, in which Maxie was recently cast in a lead role alongside fellow Drag Race Philippines alum Viñas DeLuxe. Maxie previously won the third season of Drag Race Philippines after placing fifth in Queen of the Universe.
