MANILA – Isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to affect parts of the country, particularly Luzon, on Wednesday due to localized thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 5 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said generally fair weather conditions will prevail over the Visayas and Mindanao, although isolated afternoon or evening rain showers and thunderstorms remain possible.

The weather bureau also reported that a low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), located 1,175 kilometers west-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, has caused the southwest monsoon or habagat to weaken.

Meanwhile, former tropical cyclone Josie, internationally named Haishen, has weakened into an LPA. As of early Wednesday, it was located 1,670 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, outside the PAR.

Weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said neither of the two LPAs is expected to directly influence the country’s weather.

PAGASA added that light to moderate winds and slight to moderate sea conditions will prevail across the archipelago.
