MANILA – The southwest monsoon (habagat) will continue to affect Mindanao and the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms over parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tuesday.

In its 4 a.m. public weather forecast, PAGASA said Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.

Moderate to at times heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides in these areas.

Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, MIMAROPA, Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and the rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also caused by the southwest monsoon.

PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms in these areas may likewise result in flash floods or landslides.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms, with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest to west will prevail over Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, with slight to moderate coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters.

The rest of Luzon will experience light to moderate winds coming from the south to southwest, while coastal waters will remain slight to moderate, with wave heights of 0.6 to 1.5 meters.

PAGASA recorded a minimum temperature of 25.7 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius during the 24-hour period ending 8 p.m. Monday. Relative humidity ranged from 58 percent to 87 percent.
