MANILA — An explosion believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) occurred near the entrance of the Department of Justice (DOJ) along Padre Faura Street in Ermita shortly after midnight, the agency said Monday.

In a statement, the DOJ said the explosion happened at around 12:17 a.m.

The department said no casualties were reported following the incident.

The Philippine National Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (PNP-EOD) Unit immediately responded to the scene to conduct a technical examination.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the source, nature, and circumstances surrounding the explosion.

The DOJ said the situation is under control and that the department’s compound remains secure.

The agency added that it remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of its personnel and the public while supporting a comprehensive and impartial investigation.
