MANILA — The Sandiganbayan has issued warrants of arrest against Uswag Ilonggo Party-list Rep. James “Jojo” Ang Jr. and former Sultan Kudarat 2nd District Rep. Arnulfo Go in connection with graft cases linked to alleged anomalies in flood control projects.

The anti-graft court’s Third Division issued the warrant against Ang two days after the Office of the Ombudsman filed 14 counts of graft against him over his alleged involvement with a government contractor.

According to the Ombudsman, Ang allegedly had an interest in a construction firm that secured Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) contracts worth ₱214 million and reportedly received nearly ₱199 million in payments while he was serving as a public official.

The Constitution and other laws prohibit government officials from having private interests in government contracts.

“After a careful review of the resolution and its supporting documents, as well as the records, the court finds that probable cause exists in this case, pursuant to the Rules of Criminal Procedure. Accordingly, let a warrant of arrest be issued against accused James Ang, Jr.,” the Sandiganbayan said.

“Let a Hold Departure Order (HDO) be issued against the accused,” it added.

The court set bail at ₱30,000 for each count of graft filed against Ang.

In a statement, Ang denied the allegations against him and said he is prepared to clear his name.

“My conscience is clear. I am confident that I will be able to clear my name soon. My resolve for truth to come out is stronger and clearer,” Ang said.

“In my three years in public service, I have never used my position in the government for my own interest and to profit in any way. I hold the trust of the Ilonggos strongly, and will never betray the faith of my kasimanwas in me as their representative in Uswag Ilonggo party-list since 2022,” he added.

The Office of the Ombudsman also charged Go and three other individuals with two counts each of graft and malversation in connection with the same flood control project issue.

The Sandiganbayan likewise issued a warrant of arrest against Go on Monday.
