MANILA – The southwest monsoon or Habagat will continue to affect Luzon, bringing occasional rains and thunderstorms over several areas on Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 4 a.m. weather forecast, PAGASA said Zambales and Bataan will experience occasional rains, with moderate to heavy rains potentially triggering flash floods and landslides.

Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, the rest of Central Luzon, Camarines Norte, Aklan, Antique and Capiz will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

Moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas may also cause flash floods and landslides.

The rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon, with severe thunderstorms potentially triggering flash floods or landslides.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms may also result in flash floods and landslides in affected areas.

Tropical Storm Nangka outside PAR

PAGASA also monitored Tropical Storm Nangka (2617), which was outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 3 a.m.

Nangka was located 2,560 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, or at 25.0°N, 146.4°E, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

It was moving northeastward at 20 kph.

The weather bureau said Nangka remains outside PAR.

Rough seas in northern, western Luzon

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest are expected over the northern and western sections of Luzon, where coastal waters will be moderate to rough, with wave heights of 2.1 to 2.8 meters.

The rest of Luzon will experience light to moderate southwesterly winds and slight to moderate seas, with waves reaching 1.2 to 1.8 meters.

Visayas and Mindanao will have light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, with coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.

For Metro Manila, PAGASA recorded a minimum temperature of 25.6°C and a maximum of 28.5°C during the previous 24-hour period.

The weather bureau advised the public to monitor its latest forecasts and warnings, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides.
