MANILA — A low pressure area (LPA) was monitored east of Northern Luzon early Thursday as the southwest monsoon or habagat continued to bring rains over Luzon and the western section of Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

As of 3 a.m., the LPA was estimated at 1,030 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, near 18.9°N, 131.4°E, based on available data.

PAGASA said Zambales and Occidental Mindoro will experience occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon, with moderate to heavy rains potentially triggering flash floods or landslides.

Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Central Luzon, Batanes, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Palawan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras and Negros Occidental will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

Moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas may also cause flash floods or landslides.

The rest of Luzon, as well as Aklan, Capiz and Negros Oriental, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon. Severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods or landslides.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms, with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Moderate to rough seas

PAGASA forecast moderate to strong winds from the southwest over Luzon and the western section of Visayas, with coastal waters expected to be moderate to rough, with waves reaching 1.5 to 3.4 meters.

The rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate seas and wave heights of 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

PAGASA recorded a minimum temperature of 26.6°C at 6 a.m. Wednesday and a maximum of 32.7°C at noon. Relative humidity ranged from 58% at noon to 92% at 8 p.m.

In Metro Manila, the sun is expected to rise at 5:44 a.m. Thursday and set at 6:12 p.m. The full moon is expected to rise at 5:38 p.m. and set at 4:42 a.m.

PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for weather updates, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides.
