MANILA — Monsoon rains are expected over parts of northern and central Luzon on Saturday as the southwest monsoon continues to affect Luzon and the Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 4 a.m. forecast, PAGASA said a low pressure area (LPA) was located 520 kilometers north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, as of 3 a.m.

Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac and Pampanga will experience monsoon rains, with possible flash floods and landslides due to heavy to intense rainfall.

Metro Manila, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro will have occasional rains caused by the southwest monsoon. Moderate to heavy rains may trigger flash floods and landslides.

The rest of Luzon, Western Visayas and the Negros Island Region will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, with moderate to at times heavy rains also potentially causing flooding and landslides.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods or landslides.

PAGASA said Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds from the southwest, with coastal waters expected to be moderate to rough at 1.5 to 3.1 meters.

The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate at 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

Over Metro Manila, sunrise was expected at 5:44 a.m. and sunset at 6:10 p.m. The moonrise was forecast at 6:53 p.m., with the moonset at 6:23 a.m. and illumination at 98%.
