MANILA – The southwest monsoon will continue to affect Luzon and Visayas, bringing varying levels of rain and thunderstorms across several areas on Saturday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Saturday.

Occidental Mindoro is expected to experience monsoon rains, with heavy to intense rainfall potentially triggering flash floods or landslides.

Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro and Antique may experience occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon. Moderate to heavy rains could also cause flash floods or landslides in affected areas.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are forecast over the Ilocos Region, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, the rest of Central Luzon, the rest of CALABARZON, the rest of MIMAROPA, Abra, Benguet and Northern Samar.

PAGASA warned that moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas could result in flash floods or landslides.

The rest of Luzon and Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may bring localized flash floods or landslides.

Mindanao will likewise experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, primarily due to localized thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms could also trigger flash floods or landslides.

Meanwhile, a tropical depression was located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 3 a.m. Saturday.

The tropical depression was situated 1,685 kilometers east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon at 24.7°N, 137.7°E. It had maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

The system was moving northward at 35 kph.

For wind and coastal conditions, Luzon is expected to experience light to moderate winds coming from the southwest to west, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate at 0.6 to 2.5 meters.

The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, while coastal waters are expected to range from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

In Metro Manila, the recorded temperature for the previous 24-hour period ending at 8 p.m. Friday ranged from a minimum of 25.1°C at 5 a.m. to a maximum of 28.6°C at 2 p.m.

Relative humidity reached a minimum of 81 percent at 7 p.m. and a maximum of 96 percent at 8 a.m.

The sun is expected to rise at 5:44 a.m. and set at 6:05 p.m. Saturday. The moon is expected to set at 1:05 p.m., with 37 percent illumination.
