MANILA – Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Tuesday he will travel to Lyon, France, to follow up with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) on a new request for a red notice against ousted Ako Bicol Party-list representative Zaldy Co.

Interpol is headquartered in Lyon. A red notice serves as a request to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal proceedings.

The Philippine government had previously sought an Interpol red notice against Co in April.

Speaking at a press briefing in Camp Crame, Remulla said he would travel to France with Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, who is expected to pursue diplomatic efforts related to Co.

“We are filing a red notice for Zaldy Co again. Coincidentally, I am also going to Lyon, France to follow up on his red notice with Interpol. So Ombudsman Boying announced that he is going to Paris also to talk to the authorities there,” the DILG chief said.

“I will work with the Interpol, he will work with the diplomatic efforts to get Zaldy Co. As far as the other ones, I will wait for the further report; I can’t say yet,” he added.

Remulla said authorities continue to pursue Co and other individuals accused in connection with the alleged anomalous flood control projects. He did not disclose whether the Philippine National Police or the Department of the Interior and Local Government had received any indication that Co was considering surrender.

Co’s most recently reported location was Prague, Czech Republic.

The Sandiganbayan has issued another arrest warrant against Co, this time in connection with a plunder case involving more than PHP7 billion in alleged kickbacks from various government projects. The warrant also covered Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez.

Romualdez was arrested Monday night at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City, where he had been confined after reportedly experiencing a “cardiovascular event.”

Authorities had earlier tracked Co’s movements across Europe. In April, he was reported to have traveled by land from Portugal to France before reaching Prague, where he was apprehended for lacking proper documentation after his Philippine passport had been canceled.

Czech authorities later released him. Philippine authorities had previously located Co in Portugal.
