MANILA—The House prosecution is examining Vice President Sara Z. Duterte’s financial records to determine the extent of her wealth and whether her declared assets can be accounted for by legitimate sources of income.

Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua, a House prosecutor and chairperson of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, said the prosecution is gradually putting together Duterte’s financial records to establish how her wealth grew over the years.

“Ito nga iyong parang puzzle na binubuo natin unti-unti para makita po natin talaga kung gaano po kalaki ang yaman ng ating Bise Presidente,” Chua said at a press briefing Monday.

“At ito’y ibabangga natin doon sa kanyang mga dineklara sa kanyang SALN at kung paano lumago, from 2007 up to 2025,” he added.

Duterte’s Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) presented during her impeachment trial showed that her declared net worth increased from about P7.25 million in 2007 to P98.66 million in 2025.

Chua said the prosecution is also checking whether the P98.66 million declared in Duterte’s 2025 SALN represents the entirety of her wealth.

“At dito ba sa P98 [million] na ito, ito ba hanggang dito na lamang, o mas marami pa siyang hindi nade-declare?” he said.

“So ’yan po iyong unti-unting puzzle na binubuo po ng prosecution,” Chua added.

The investigation forms part of the prosecution’s presentation under Article II of the Articles of Impeachment, which involves allegations of unexplained wealth.

Prosecutors have presented Duterte’s SALNs and corporate records concerning her declared business interests. They have also obtained bank records through subpoenas issued by the Senate impeachment court.

The prosecution has questioned whether Duterte’s declared businesses generated enough income to explain the increase in her net worth, particularly after corporate records examined during the trial showed no dividend declarations in several companies.

On Monday, prosecutors also presented Philippine National Police (PNP) records detailing firearms registered under Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases “Mans” Carpio.

The records showed that Duterte has 22 registered firearms, while Carpio has 29.

The PNP Firearms and Explosives Office placed the combined current market value of the 51 firearms at about P7.22 million. Its witness, however, clarified that the amount was not the actual acquisition cost of the firearms.

The House prosecution has yet to finish presenting its evidence under Article II, with additional financial and asset records expected to be presented as it continues building its unexplained wealth case.
