MANILA— The Senate impeachment court will not hold a session on September 30 as it prepares for whole-day proceedings scheduled from October 1 to 15, according to court spokesperson Atty. Regie Tongol.

In a statement, Tongol said the cancellation was made pursuant to an official Senate advisory and should not be interpreted as a delay in the impeachment trial.

“The Impeachment Court is not pausing because it is behind; it is pausing because the Court is aggressively ahead of schedule,” Tongol said.

He said the court had moved at a rigorous pace since it opened Article II on September 14, with the prosecution presenting six witnesses over eight days.

Tongol described the canceled session as a “Strategic Procedural Pause” intended to give both the prosecution and defense panels time to prepare for whole-day proceedings from October 1 to 15.

The hearings are scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily during the period.

The pause will also allow the parties to review financial records expected to come from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) and Registers of Deeds starting Thursday.

Tongol said the court would resume proceedings on October 1 at exactly 10 a.m. and continue with the marathon hearings as part of efforts to ensure a swift and orderly trial.
