MANILA— The trough of Severe Tropical Storm Choi-Wan is bringing cloudy skies, rains and thunderstorms over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Friday.

In its 24-hour public weather forecast issued at 4 a.m. on Oct. 2, PAGASA said Mindanao, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, and Central Visayas would experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the storm’s trough.

Moderate to at times heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides in affected areas, PAGASA said.

The rest of the Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, also due to the trough of Choi-Wan. Flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms, with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

As of 3 a.m., Choi-Wan was outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), located 2,495 kilometers east of Northern Luzon at 16.7°N, 145.1°E.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph. It was moving west-northwestward at 10 kph.

PAGASA said light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest would prevail over Luzon and the Visayas, with coastal waters expected to be slight to moderate at 0.6 to 1.2 meters.

Mindanao would experience light to moderate winds from the northwest to west, with similar coastal water conditions.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila recorded a minimum temperature of 25.7°C and a maximum temperature of 32.6°C during the 24-hour period ending at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The minimum relative humidity was 57%, while the maximum was 91%.

PAGASA said the sun would rise over Metro Manila at 5:46 a.m. Friday and set at 5:45 p.m. The moon would rise at 10:25 p.m. and set at 10:58 a.m., with 62% illumination.
