MANILA— The prosecution and defense panels in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte clashed Monday over the presentation of covered transaction reports, with defense lawyer Mark Vinluan questioning whether the document shown in court had been cropped.
Vinluan raised the issue during the 33rd day of the impeachment trial as the prosecution panel presented covered transaction reports linked to Duterte.
“It appears that the prosecution is not being entirely truthful to this honorable court because they are flashing a document, your honor, but it seems the document compared to the original was cropped,” he said on Monday.
“In the original document, prior to the date, your honor, there is an annotation that states strictly confidential. And the document here as appearing in the screen now does not contain that portion,” Vinluan added.
Vinluan also objected to what he described as the use of unreliable and inaccurate representations during the proceedings.
“This is not a press conference, this is a court proceeding, a formal court proceeding and the use of these unreliable and inaccurate representations are unwarranted,” he said during the 33rd day of the impeachment trial.
Private prosecutor Mae Divinagracia rejected the allegation that the prosecution had deliberately withheld or altered portions of the document displayed in court.
“We respectfully take the strongest exception to the allegation earlier that we were being untruthful in the flashing of the document on the screen,” she said on Monday.
“It was insinuated that we were deliberately concealing portions of the document flashed on the screen, but that is farthest from the truth,” she added.
