MANILA— Several parts of the Philippines may experience scattered rains and thunderstorms on Saturday due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and easterlies, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 4 a.m. weather forecast, PAGASA said the ITCZ is affecting Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao, while easterlies are bringing weather disturbances to Bicol, parts of MIMAROPA, Quezon, Aurora, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Mindanao, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Cebu and Palawan, as well as Bicol, the rest of MIMAROPA, Quezon and Aurora.

PAGASA warned that moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas could trigger flash floods or landslides.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, along with the rest of the Visayas, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms could also cause flash floods or landslides in these areas.

Meanwhile, Batanes and the Babuyan Islands will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeasterly wind flow, with no significant impact expected.

PAGASA also reported that Typhoon Champi (2630) was outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of 3 a.m. Saturday. It was located 2,675 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 170 kph.

The typhoon was moving west-northwestward at 25 kph.

Moderate to rough coastal waters, with waves of 1.5 to 2.5 meters, are expected over Extreme Northern Luzon. Visayas and the rest of Luzon will have light to moderate winds from the northeast to east, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate at 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

Mindanao will experience light winds of variable direction and slight coastal waters, with waves of 0.6 to 1.2 meters.

PAGASA recorded a minimum temperature of 25.2 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 33.8 degrees Celsius during the 24-hour period ending at 8 p.m. Friday.

In Metro Manila, sunrise is at 5:48 a.m. and sunset at 5:35 p.m. Saturday, while the moon is expected to rise at 11:16 a.m. and set at 10:38 p.m., with 39% illumination.
