MANILA— The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecast scattered rains and thunderstorms in parts of Luzon and Mindanao on Monday, warning of possible flash floods and landslides in affected areas.
In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin on Oct. 19, PAGASA said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) was affecting Palawan and the western section of Mindanao, while easterlies were prevailing over the Visayas and the rest of Luzon.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and Palawan due to the ITCZ. Moderate to at times heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods or landslides.
Similar weather conditions are forecast over the Bicol Region, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon and Oriental Mindoro due to easterlies, with the same risks of flooding and landslides.
Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and the rest of the Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. The rest of Mindanao will also have similar conditions due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms in these areas could cause flash floods or landslides.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Champi (international designation 2630) was located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 3 a.m. Monday, approximately 1,720 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon.
The typhoon had maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour near its center and gusts of up to 215 kph. It was moving west-northwestward at 25 kph.
For coastal conditions, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected across the country.
Luzon will experience northeast to east winds, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters. In the Visayas, winds will be from the northeast to northwest, with waves of 0.6 to 1.8 meters. Mindanao will have northwest to west winds, with wave heights of 0.6 to 1.5 meters.
In Metro Manila, sunrise is expected at 5:48 a.m. and sunset at 5:34 p.m. The moon is expected to rise at 12:47 p.m., with illumination at 58%.
