MANILA— The House prosecution team called on Vice President Sara Duterte to explain her declared wealth after a forensic accounting analysis flagged at least ₱817.87 million in alleged undeclared assets and unexplained wealth from 2022 to 2025.

Ace Barbers, House prosecution adviser and spokesperson, said Filipinos deserved a comprehensive explanation of the financial records presented during Duterte’s impeachment proceedings.

“Meron pong karapatan ang ating mga mamamayan sa isang malinaw at buong paliwanag na magmumula sa kampo ng ating Pangalawang Pangulo,” Barbers said at a press briefing.

The prosecution’s statement came ahead of the resumption of Duterte’s impeachment trial on Nov. 9, when her defense team is expected to present evidence on Article II, the remaining charge involving alleged unexplained wealth.

Barbers, a former Surigao del Norte representative, cited the findings of forensic accounting expert Alexander Cabrera, who examined the vice president’s bank transactions, tax records and corporate interests.

Among the financial records questioned by the prosecution were combined year-end bank balances involving Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases “Mans” Carpio. These amounted to approximately ₱59 million in 2022, ₱71 million in 2023, ₱22 million in 2024 and ₱39 million in 2025.

The prosecution compared these figures with the amounts Duterte declared under other personal properties in her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs), which stood at about ₱13 million in 2022, ₱14 million in 2023, ₱21.13 million in 2024 and ₱29 million in 2025.

Barbers also questioned whether Duterte properly declared her insurance policies, investments and 51 registered firearms valued at ₱7.22 million.

Her business interests and real properties in Davao City and Samal Island were likewise among the items flagged by the prosecution.

“So these are the things na dapat talaga ay maipaliwanag ng defense,” Barbers said.

Cabrera’s analysis placed the alleged unexplained wealth at as much as ₱1.5 billion under a broader calculation, although the figure remained subject to adjustments.

The prosecution also presented records from the Anti-Money Laundering Council covering approximately ₱4.4 billion in reported financial transactions from 2007 to 2025. The amount represents the total value of transactions covered by the records, not Duterte’s personal net worth.

Barbers said the evidence was drawn from banks, government agencies and documents submitted by the vice president herself.

“’Yung records ba ng bangko, magbabago ba ’yan? Meron ba silang ipi-present na witness na sasabihin mali ’yung outstanding balances na iyan?” he asked.

Duterte’s defense has disputed the prosecution’s interpretation of the financial records, maintaining that certain assets had already been covered by her declarations.

Barbers said the prosecution sought to make the evidence and the questions surrounding Duterte’s financial disclosures understandable to the public as the impeachment proceedings continue.
