MANILA— Depositors of the closed Community Rural Bank of Medellin (Cebu), Inc. have until November 15, 2026, to file their deposit insurance claims with the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC).

The PDIC said 78 deposit accounts, with total insured deposits amounting to P295,642.31, remain unclaimed as of its latest data.

As of September 30, 2026, the corporation had paid P31.3 million to depositors, equivalent to 99% of the bank’s total insured deposits of P31.6 million.

Depositors may submit their claims through email at pad@pdic.gov.ph, by postal mail or courier, or in person at the PDIC Public Assistance Center at the ground floor of the PDIC Chino Building, 2228 Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City.

The center accepts walk-in claims from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, depositors are encouraged to secure an appointment by contacting the PDIC Public Assistance Hotline at (02) 8841-4141 for Metro Manila clients or 1-800-1-888-PDIC for those outside the capital region.

For claims submitted through email, depositors must attach scanned copies or photos of their accomplished, signed and notarized Claim Form, proof of deposit and one valid government-issued or other photo-bearing identification card bearing their signature.

Those filing personally or through postal mail or courier must submit the accomplished, signed and notarized Claim Form, the original savings passbook and/or certificate of time deposit, and a photocopy of one valid photo-bearing identification card with the depositor’s signature.

The PDIC said it may require additional documents or original copies of documents initially submitted electronically during the evaluation and processing of claims.

The Claim Form is available for free download through the PDIC website. The corporation emphasized that filing deposit insurance claims does not require any payment.

For depositors below 18 years old, a photocopy of their Philippine Statistics Authority-issued birth certificate or a duly certified copy from the Local Civil Registrar must be submitted.

Representatives filing claims on behalf of depositors must provide an original notarized Special Power of Attorney executed by the depositor or the parent of a minor depositor. The required template is also available on the PDIC website.

Under the PDIC Charter, depositors have two years from the date of a bank’s takeover to file deposit insurance claims.

The PDIC took over Community Rural Bank of Medellin on November 15, 2024, a day after the Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ordered its closure on November 14, 2024.

The bank was a single-unit rural bank located along Jose Rizal Street in Barangay Poblacion, Medellin, Cebu.

Depositors with outstanding loans or other payables to the bank will be referred to the designated Loans Officer before their deposit insurance claims are settled.

For inquiries, depositors may contact the PDIC Public Assistance Department through pad@pdic.gov.ph, its official Facebook page, or the hotline numbers provided by the corporation.
