MANILA — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) held the 9th Bilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) on December 9 to 10, highlighting both countries’ commitment to regional security and a rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific.
The MCA aimed to enhance interoperability, deepen operational cooperation, and strengthen joint capabilities amid evolving maritime challenges, reaffirming the defense partnership between the Philippines and the United States.
During the exercise, the AFP deployed the BRP Jose Rizal (FF150), three FA-50 fighter jets, three A-29B Super Tucano aircraft, a Black Hawk, and a Sokol helicopter, demonstrating its growing operational readiness and ability to integrate with allied forces in complex maritime scenarios.
USINDOPACOM participated with the USS Rafael Peralta (DDG-115), MH-60R Seahawk helicopters, and a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, showcasing advanced surveillance, naval warfare, and joint operational capabilities.
The joint forces carried out cooperative evolutions including Division Tactics (DIVTACS), complex ship maneuvering exercises, Night Steaming in Company (NSIC), and aircraft flybys or low passes. The exercise also featured an “intercept and escort” of a US P-8A aircraft by the PAF’s FA-50 jets.
These activities improved coordination, communication procedures, and the ability of both militaries to operate seamlessly in dynamic maritime conditions.
The Philippine–U.S. Bilateral MCA underscores the enduring alliance between the two nations and their shared commitment to maritime security, freedom of navigation, and regional stability.
