MANILA — The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines Healthcare Commission on Thursday urged all parishes to strictly implement anti-smoking and anti-vaping rules in church premises.

In a video statement, CBCP Healthcare Commission Executive Secretary Fr. Dan Cancino emphasized that prohibiting smoking and vaping is both a matter of respect for sacred spaces and a public health measure.

“[Smoking and vaping] cause preventable diseases, premature death, and immense suffering to families… Sana lahat po ng ating mga parokya, lahat ng ating mga lugar, ay mag-enforce ng strict smoke-free and vape-free policies,” he said.
(I hope all our parishes, all our areas, will enforce strict smoke-free and vape-free policies.)

Fr. Cancino noted that the call aligns with existing laws and urged the faithful to use the Holy Week to reduce or quit smoking and vaping habits.

“We understand it is not easy. But with God’s grace, liberation is possible. Kaya po natin ito,” he added.
