MANILA — Detained contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya II will be temporarily taken out of Senate detention to undergo a medical procedure on his right shoulder, Senate Secretary Mark Llandro “Dong” Mendoza said.
In a report, it said that Mendoza said the request was approved after Discaya sought medical intervention for his condition.
“Nag-request kasi siya na mag-undergo ng medical procedure, so pinayagan naman siya,” Mendoza told reporters.
(He requested to undergo a medical procedure. He was allowed to do so.)
He said the procedure is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, pending security clearance.
“So tentative, baka this Thursday mag-undergo siya ng medical procedure, pero hinihintay pa ‘yung clearance kung matutuloy siya this Thursday. Then after a week, balik na siya rito para dito na siya magpagaling sa Senate,” Mendoza added.
(Tentatively, he may undergo a medical procedure this Thursday, but we are still waiting for the clearance if it will proceed. Then after a week, he will return here to continue his recovery here in the Senate.)
Mendoza did not disclose the hospital where Discaya will be brought, citing security considerations. He also said any visits from the contractor’s family may be restricted while he is confined.
He added that Senate in-house doctors and hospital personnel had evaluated Discaya’s condition prior to the approval of the procedure.
“Na-check ng in-house doctor natin. At the same time, na-check din ng hospital siya. So pinayagan naman, nag-go naman ‘yung in-house doctor natin, ‘yung reklamo, ‘yung complaint niya sa sakit niya,” Mendoza explained.
(Our in-house doctor checked him. At the same time, he was checked at a hospital. So he was allowed to undergo the medical procedure because of his complaint.)
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III earlier said Discaya was brought to a hospital last month due to shoulder concerns.
Discaya has been in Senate detention since September 2025 after being cited in contempt by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee during hearings on alleged anomalous flood control projects.
