MANILA — Star Cinema’s upcoming film Tayo Sa Wakas may be the last on-screen project together for Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano for the time being, the actors revealed during a recent podcast interview.
Donny and Belle, collectively known as the DonBelle love team, appeared on Bianca Gonzalez’s video podcast Paano Ba ‘To?! to promote their film directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana, where they also reflected on their personal and professional growth.
Belle said the film centers on self-discovery and individuality, noting that it reflects where she and Donny currently are in their lives.
“Kasi sometimes it’s not just falling in love with your partner, it’s also falling in love with yourself, and we forget that sometimes,” Donny added. “I think that’s one of the biggest things this film will showcase. You can’t forget about yourself… two incomplete people doesn’t make a whole, it could make it worse.”
Donny later confirmed that after several projects together, Tayo Sa Wakas would serve as their final DonBelle project for now, a statement that surprised host Bianca Gonzalez. Belle clarified that the decision was mutual.
The pair said the film required them to embrace personal growth, including spending time apart from each other.
“Siguro we’re just at a point where we’re choosing to support each other through this and each other’s growth,” Donny said, adding that they initially felt nervous about the transition.
“Obviously it’s hard kasi we’re going through it sa shoot na ‘di namin alam kailan ang next time… but I’m glad we get to go through this together,” he added.
Donny said he is grateful for their partnership since He’s Into Her in 2021, calling Tayo Sa Wakas a fitting project to close their current run as a love team.
“It’s scary, yes, but exciting also, and knowing that, parang we’re really so dedicated in doing this project really, really well,” Belle said.
Since being paired in 2021, DonBelle has starred in projects such as An Inconvenient Love, He’s Into Her, Love Is Color Blind, Can’t Buy Me Love, and How to Spot a Red Flag.
Both actors have also taken on individual projects outside the tandem, including Donny’s GG: Good Game and Roja, and Belle’s Huling Sayaw, Click, Like, Share, Incognito, and Meet, Greet & Bye.
Tayo Sa Wakas is scheduled to premiere in Philippine cinemas on May 27.
